Atlanta Trombone Ensemble Performs Sunday At Chattanooga State

The Atlanta Trombone Ensemble will present a concert of varying musical styles ranging from contemporary to traditional standards at Chattanooga State Community College on Sunday, May 26 beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Humanities Theatre.

"The wide variety of music will be sure to bring something new and unexpected, no matter your musical background and interest. In addition, the concert will feature the inaugural performance by the Chattanooga Trombone Ensemble," officials said.

In addition to university performances, the Atlanta Trombone Ensemble performs several jazz and pop concerts in and around the metro-Atlanta area.

Each year, they host “YuleSlide Atlanta,” a holiday event open to trombone players from across the southeast.

Gil Estes. ensemble director, is a native of Atlanta, where he studied with Dr. Paul Mann and Bill Hill. He graduated from the Florida State University, where he studied with Dr. William Cramer and Dr. John Drew. Mr. Estes later attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he studied with Mr. Buddy Baker.

After college, Mr. Estes taught high school band in South Florida, as well as metro-Atlanta. As a trombonist, he is an active free-lance musician, playing in various venues around metro-Atlanta. In addition to playing, he maintains a trombone studio and is the musical director for the Atlanta Trombone Ensemble.
