Chattanooga junior forward Chloe Arnold was named to the Southern Conference Preseason All-Conference Team the league office announce today.
Arnold led Chattanooga in scoring last season with 27 points and ranked third in the conference standings. She was second in the SoCon for points per game (1.5) and goals scored (11). She was selected to the SoCon coaches All-Conference First Team last season and was the 2016 SoCon Freshman of the Year.
In the Mocs single season list, Arnold is fifth for points and tied for fourth in goals scored.
She is seventh all-time at UTC with 41 points and sixth with 18 goals scored. Her 113 shots taken over her first two seasons ranks seventh all-time at UTC. She has five multi-goal games including a hat trick against The Citadel in her freshman campaign.
UNCG and Samford each placed three on the preseason team followed by Furman’s two selections. ETSU and Chattanooga had the other two picks.
The Mocs were picked to finish sixth this season, just five points behind Mercer in the poll. UTC was just one point out of third place at the end of last season and tied for fifth in the final SoCon standings.
UNCG, with six first place votes, was picked to win the league with 77 points. Reigning regular season champion Samford picked up the four remaining votes and finished second in the poll with 76 points. Furman, who fell to UNCG in the SoCon Tournament final, is picked to finish third followed by ETSU.
Western Carolina finished seventh in the voting followed by The Citadel, Wofford and VMI.
Chattanoga returns 11 players from last year’s team including Arnold, two-time all-conference selection Jordan Mueller and all-freshmen selections Hollie Massey, Maggie Shaw and keeper Ashton Shields.
The season kicks off Friday August 23 at home against Austin Peay at 6:00 p.m. Gates at the UTC Sports Comples, the new home of Mocs Soccer, will open at 5:00 p.m.
