Mocs Tennis Competes In UTC Invite

  • Friday, October 30, 2020
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team won six of nine matches on the opening day of the 2020 UTC Invite today.  The Mocs took three singles and three doubles at the UTC Tennis Center.

Action began with two sets of two doubles matches at the UTC Tennis Center.  Junior Bogdana Zaporozhets and freshman Jessie Young posted a 6-3 win over Muskan Gupta and Noelle Mauro in the first round.

The Mocs swept both doubles in round two, led by Zaporozhets and freshman Callie Billman's 6-3 win over Mauro and Lilly-Sophie Schmidt.  Young and junior Emma Van Hee closed out doubles play with a 6-3 win over Gupta and Zani Barnard.

"The women fought hard today to earn the wins," stated head coach Chad Camper.  "Both programs got better and that's the goal.
We look forward to finishing strong on Sunday."

MTSU was cruising in singles early on, taking the first set in all five matches.  Van Hee had to battle back against Lidia Burrows on the ESPN+ feature court.  Burrows won the first set 6-3, but Van Hee took the second 6-3.  Van Hee closed out the win in a third-set super-tiebreaker [3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10)].

UTC had two other comeback wins, including Young on court two.  She beat Barnard [3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5)].  Sophomore Lilly Holmes had the other win over Mauro [2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5)].

MTSU is back in action tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against UAB.  The Mocs take the court again on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. (E.S.T.) against the Blazers.  Live scoring is available for both days, and Sunday's action broadcasts on ESPN+.  Links for both are available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
