LaToya Bell

LaToya A. Bell was born on a cold December 30th morning of 1974 to her mother Beverly Jones, a military veteran from Nashville, Tennessee.

From the time, LaToya was born to a growing little girl, she had a sweet spirit that allowed her to adopt the nickname “Cup Cake” from her grandmother Rosie.  As a little girl, LaToya never shied away from speaking what was on her mind, and that was a true example of big things coming in small packages.  LaToya attended Chattanooga High School for a brief moment after giving birth to a happy bouncing baby boy Lorenzo.  With support of her parents Reuben and Beverly, she later attended Whitney M. Young, Jr. Jobs Corps Center in Louisville, KY where she earned a certification as a Clinical Medical Assistant.  Shortly after completing Job Corps, cupid’s arrow didn’t spare any expense when LaToya gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Roesha.  LaToya lived in Louisville, KY for nearly 12 years before moving back to Chattanooga due to health complications. Years after being back home, she became a member of Olivet Baptist Church.

LaToya also met the man of her dreams Tony, who remained by her side until the time The Lord called her home on February 15, 2020. LaToya will forever be remembered as a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was the kind of person who was loyal and full of life. LaToya never let anyone define who she was and she lived with no regrets.

She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Rosie Mai Stevenson, Dora Mai Searcy, and Josephine Bell.

Survivors include her children, Lorenzo Bell and Roesha Poole; grandchild; Royal Poole, all of Louisville, KY; parents, Beverly and Reuben Baine, Tony Bell; brothers, DeJuan Baine of Cherryhill, NJ, Marchello Baine of Macon, GA, and Jeremiah Baine; sister, LaKeshia (Anthony) Baine-Arnold; Tony Jones and Trenna Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

She will lie in state on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 4 p.m. in the chapel.
