UTC Men's Tennis Team Wins Road Match

Despite losing the doubles point, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s tennis team was able to score an impressive 6-1 win at USC-Upstate today.  The Mocs improved to 11-2 overall, while the Spartans fell to 2-6.

“It was a rough doubles start but really in singles the guys answered the bell and played strong,” stated UTC head coach Chuck Merzbacher.  “Any road win is a hard fought win. We need to clean up a few things but we’ll get back to work and be ready for a super big weekend with Troy and Tennessee Tech on the radar.” 

Senior Niklas Gerdes and sophomore Tomas Rodriguez posted the lone win in singles, improving to 11-0 at No.
2 in the spring. 

The Mocs not only swept singles play, ive of the six wins were in straight sets.  Gerdes moved to 13-0 at No. 1, while freshman Jeffrey Dewald won his 12th in a row and is now 11-1 at No. 4.

The Mocs are on the road next weekend, taking on Troy on Friday, Feb. 28, and Tennessee Tech on  Sunday, March 1.
