Ann Horne Duff
Ann Horne Duff, fondly known to many as “Mawmaw”, departed this life for her heavenly home on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from Covid complications.
Mrs. Duff was born on December 14, 1935, in Columbus, Ga. She graduated from high school in 1953 from Sacred Heart Academy in Cullman, Al. On Nov. 3, 1957, she married her husband of 58 years, James Ellis Duff.
Ann worked her career in civil service at Fort Benning, Ga., retiring in 1993. As a “working mom”, she intentionally made a point to be very involved in her children’s lives and supported their activities by serving in roles such as homeroom mom, team mom, and in booster clubs.
After retirement, Ann and her husband enjoyed many years of traveling, fishing, and visiting out of town family. In 2012, they moved to Chattanooga to be near children and grandchildren.
Over her lifetime, Ann served sacrificially for the good of others. She was completely devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and most recently her great-grandchildren. Over her husband’s seven-year illness with Parkinson’s disease, she sacrificed much for his care. Up until her death, she continued to serve by giving rides to friends, cooking and sharing food, knitting and crocheting for others, and caring for great-grandchildren.
The love Ann had for others was an extension of Jesus’ love in her heart. She was very involved in Red Bank Baptist Church and served in the “Needle Nuts” group making many shawls for the elderly in need. She also enjoyed attending Bible Study Fellowship, making many friends whom she enjoyed very much.
Ann Duff was preceded in death by her husband, James Duff, in 2016.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Julie (Don) Franklin; son and daughter-in-law, Dan (Donna) Duff; grandchildren, Don Franklin, Joshua Duff and fiancée Brittany Smith, Jim (Ivanny) Franklin, Leslie (Brendan) Wall, Paige Duff and fiancée Hunter Ortwein; great-grandchildren, Mason Wall, Vera Franklin, Brooks Wall, Porter Franklin; brother, Butch M. Gray; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Donald Goodroe, many nieces and nephews; special friends, Alvin and Glenda Armour, Janet Johnson, and Yolanda and Eddie Brown.
A commemoration of her life will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 22, in the Worship Center at Red Bank Baptist Church.
Visitation at the church will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the service following at 2 p.m. Masking is required and social distancing measures will be followed. A virtual experience is also offered by https://redbankbaptist.online.church
Interment will follow on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
