  • Saturday, March 13, 2021
The Covenant women's soccer team completed the 5-1 win over Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. The victory makes it two in a row over USA South opponents.

It did not take long for the Scots to strike, as their first goal came in the fifth minute of play. Assisted by Megan Rasku, Paige Simons Pettit was able to get one in the bottom left of the goal, giving Covenant the early 1-0 lead.

The Scots didn't have to wait long for their second goal either, as Kyra Duble scored in the 16th minute, also assisted by Rasku.
The two assists for Rasku are her firsts of the season.

Covenant continued to make it hard for Wesleyan goalie, Sha Sha Edouard, as they would take 12 total shots in the first period. The onslaught paid off, as the Scots took a 3-0 lead in the last minute of the half off of a goal by Mary Streets, assisted by Katie Davick. The goal is the first of Streets' career.

Entering the second period up 3-0, Covenant struck quickly again. In the 52nd minute, Rasku put her team up 4-0 on the host Wolves, with a goal assisted by Duble.

Soon after, in the 55th minute, Simons Pettit scored another goal, assisted by Kailey Burrell, which put the Scots up 5-0. The goal was the fourth score in the last two games for Simons Pettit, who has had two back-to-back games with multiple goals.

Covenant was on their way to complete the shutout victory, but a foul in the 87th minute would lead to a penalty kick goal, giving the Wolves their first score of the game. Lesley Godoy was able to get it past Mary T Pickers, resulting in the final score of 5-1.

The Scots ended the game with 27 total shots, 17 of which were shots on goal. Covenant's defense held Wesleyan to just five shots for the contest, two of which were on goal.

Burrell led Covenant with six total shots and five shots on goal. Simons Pettit scored on two of her three shots, while Duble was 1-for-1. Rasku and Streets both were 1-for-2 for the contest.

Lucy Sandhoff got the start in the goalie box for the Scots and earned one save. Pickers entered the game with just under 30 minutes to play, allowing one goal.

Edouard played all 90 minutes and recorded 12 saves on the 17 shots on goal.

Covenant improves to 3-3 in conference play (4-3 overall), while the Wolves fall to 1-5 (1-7 overall).
