Asjah Harrell passes to Kyeshia Dalton
Cleveland State men’s basketball won their fourth game out of their last five on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Roane State 62-48 in Harriman, Tn.
Maurice Dickson led the team with 18 points and seven boards and also recorded three steals. Damian Forrest also reached double-digit points, scoring 10, while also posting six rebounds. Desmond Billingsley led the team with five assists.
The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Morristown, Tn. to square off with conference foe Walters State. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
Cleveland State women’s basketball got back on the winning track on Saturday afternoon, securing a 63-53 victory at Roane State.
Head Coach Evelyn Thompson spoke highly of the strength of the Roane State team the Lady Cougars faced. “We started off slowly, but got into a rhythm in the second half. Roane is a tough, well-coached team. We knew it was going to be a challenge. Our defensive effort was the difference in the game. We were committed to team defense and communication.”
Emma Harig, last week’s TCCAA Player of the Week, led the team with 22 points while also grabbing five boards and posting a steal, rebound and block. “I am especially proud of her,” Thompson said. “Her consistency and hard work put us in a position to win.”
Michaela Bennefield also had 15 points and a team-high,16 rebounds, while Asjah Harrell scored 14 with a team-best four assists.
Cleveland State will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Walters State for a key matchup with the Lady Senators. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
