McCallie's Getz And Leathers Are DII-AA Tennis Doubles Champions

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- McCallie added to its 2021 TSSAA Division II-AA State Championship Friday as it’s top doubles tandem of Will Leathers and Gabe Getz claimed the doubles state title in Murfreesboro. The duo defeated Luke Donovan and Roberto Ferrer of Memphis University School 6-3, 6-4 in the title match for the program’s first doubles title since 2017.


The team of Leathers, a junior, and Getz, a freshman, advanced to the championship match with a 6-0, 6-3 quarterfinals win over Mac Owen and Andrew Kuhlo of MUS and a 6-4, 6-1 win in the semifinals over the Montgomery Bell Academy duo of Kinton Lewis and Anson Anderson.


Friday morning’s championship matches were played indoors at the Adams Tennis Complex because of the threat of rain.
