The Chattanooga Writers’ Guild announces the May installment of their Monthly Workshop Series will feature the Poet Laureate of Knoxville.
Titled, Performance Poets - The modern-day Griots, and presented by Rhea Carmon, Poet Laureate of Knoxville, the event will be held on Saturday, May 22 from 10:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m. via Zoom.

About the workshop:
Spoken word poetry, hip hop and slam all originated from the idea of storytelling. It has been used as a means of communication, history, activism and encouragement. You can learn a lot about a person by listening to their stories written in a performance style. In this workshop, we will talk about the rhythm and movement of spoken word.
About the presenter:
Rhea Carmon, also known by her stage moniker, RheaSunshine, has been writing and performing spoken word poetry and slam for 20 years. Her poems are powerfully motivating, emphasizing her own personal struggles and how others can overcome them. She is the director of the annual 5th Woman On Stage (2014 - 2018), a producer for Carmon Sense Productions, coordinator for the 5th Woman Workshops and executive producer for Beyond the Spark Poet Laureate for the city of Knoxville. She has self-published four chapbooks, released three spoken word CDs and is currently working on creating a series of workshops for youth, married couples and individuals wanting poetic therapy.
