Duane Long
Duane Long, age 87, of the Dawnville community, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlyn Booker Long; parents, Dennis and Mary Long; brother, John Henry Long; sister, Kittie Mae Russell, Vivan Long; brothers-in-law, Fred Russell, Bob Bradley and Charles Booker; sisters-in-law, Susan Patterson, Vickie Booker and Dot Booker; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Howard and Flonnie Booker.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Karen Long of Lookout Mountain; three grandchildren, Sarah Long, Annabel Long, and Mary Eliot Long; sister, Sybil Bradley of Dalton; sister-in-law, Betty Long of Savannah; brothers-in-law, Frank Booker of Varnell and Tim Patterson of Dalton.
Duane was a man of loyalty and devotion. He was a true gentleman, showing kindness and patience to all, never expressing an unkind word.
He was a lifelong member of the Dawnville community and Dawnville United Methodist Church. Duane served his country in the US Army, primarily stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. Afterwards he continued a 44-year career with General Latex and Chemical. He and the love of his life, Marlyn, were married for 57 years prior to her death. Duane and Marlyn were avid square dancers and founding members of the Pleasant Grove Promenaders, resulting in lifelong friendships.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 8, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel with Rev. Kenny Bailey officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, from 11 a.m. until the service hour at 2 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions made to Dawnville Community Church. Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery.
