Cleveland State Community College recently hosted a graduation celebration for the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) class. Ten students completed the 100-hour class, passed the State Licensure Exam for Nurse Aides and earned their CNA state license.
Approved by the Tennessee Department of Health, the program is divided into three components of learning that include lecture, classroom skills lab and supervised patient care. The CNA is a specially trained individual who works at an entry-level position under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Nurse aides perform basic routine patient care, which may include assisting with meals or exercise, taking vital signs and personal hygiene. They are primarily employed at nursing homes, but may also find employment with hospitals and home health agencies.
This class was composed of selected employees from Avail Senior Living, Legacy Senior Living, Life Care of Cleveland and Life Care of Collegedale; each facility provided scholarships for their employees to complete the training program. The clinical hours were conducted at Avail Senior Living and Life Care of Cleveland with program instructors Nancy Thomas and Vicky Sullivan.
“We were so thankful and proud of these bright and dedicated students who excelled in this CNA class,” stated Ms. Thomas. “The students were selected and sponsored by Avail Senior Living, Life Care, and Legacy to participate. That is a testimony of the care these facilities are already giving to the residents. We were happy to help them take this important step in their careers and hope they continue their education to become nurses.”
