Lee University’s Small Jazz Ensemble

Lee University’s Small Jazz Ensemble, directed by Shawn Perkinson, will perform on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center on Lee’s campus.

The program will feature styles ranging from standard jazz and funk to pop and ballads, and will include composers such as Burt Bacharach, Hoagy Carmichael, Mike Stern, and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

“I wanted to put together a program that would truly have something for everyone, and the students really stepped up this semester and helped with suggestions for songs,” said Mr. Perkinson, instructor of commercial guitar. “I like to encourage the students to listen to things they like and bring in material for the rest of the group to learn. That’s one thing that really makes Small Jazz quite unique from other ensembles.”

Mr. Perkinson studied with Mark Boling, Donald Brown and Jerry Coker while earning his bachelor’s degree in studio music and jazz from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He has performed and recorded with many groups and artists over the years, including The Charlie Daniels Band and Widespread Panic.

The event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. For livestream viewing, visit leeu.live.
