David Satterfield, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully at home March 27, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

He was born March 26, 1947 in Jacksonville, N.C. David was a member of the United States Army. He attained rank of SP4 and served in the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart. He was a proud member of the American Legion and a member of the local VFW chapter.

He is preceded in death by his mother Gladys Satterfield, father Paul Satterfield, and amazing partner for life, Teresa Satterfield. He is survived by his daughter Holly Newton, his son-in-law Robert Newton, and his grandson Roman Newton. He also leaves behind an abundant amount of supportive, caring friends who he loved and cherished deeply.

David was an employee of the United States Postal Service for 41 years in Rossville and Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. David was a brave and loyal soldier, a diligent hard worker, as well as a patient and loving husband and father. David and his beloved wife Teresa were married June 1, 1988 in Florida and welcomed their only child, their daughter Holly, to the family on April 18, 1989. David was very proud of Holly’s athletic ability and spent a lot of time driving her to practice and games throughout the country. He would keep that same effort up, making several trips to see her play in college and ultimately watch her become inducted into the Valdosta State Athletics Hall of Fame for softball in January 2024.

To say David was a car enthusiast would be putting it mildly. He could be found working on his beautiful Camaro, “the mistress”, or at the World of Wheels hanging out with all his friends and family. He was always working on a car or finding a new car to tinker with or restore. He also enjoyed a cold brew on the beach, eating good food and enjoying time with family and friends.

He lived a full, energetic life and was always the life of the party. He enjoyed making others laugh, smile, and truly enriched the lives of everyone he encountered.

From the family: A special thank you to the supportive staff and nurses at Hospice of Chattanooga, Robin Hamilton, Lashanya Abston, and Lynn Fults for their amazing care of him at the end of his life. We will forever be grateful for all of you.

A service honoring the life of David Satterfield will be held for all friends and family from 3 to 6 pm on Monday, April 1, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel on Highway 153, in Hixson, TN.

A private ceremony via the American Legion at the National Cemetery for close friends and family only will be held at a later date.
