Betty Joyce Davenport, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, June, 20, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Betty was born on Nov. 23, 1938, in Big Stone Gap, Va., to the late Eldridge and Reba Johnson. She graduated from Central High School.

She was a 65-year member of Ridgedale Baptist Church. Betty gave her life to the Lord as a child and had a heart for service. She volunteered her time with many ministries. Some of these were hospital food ministry, working in prison ministry with single mothers, providing care for shut-ins, and many others.

Her career included being a school patrol guard, Ridgedale Child Development Center, and Signal Center. Her most treasured career was wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her favorite grandson, Christopher K. “Bubba” Smith and brothers, Hershel, Elbert, Larry, Glen, Keith, and Roger Johnson.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Lee Davenport; daughters, Patti (Chris) Smith of Ooltewah and Angela Davenport of Collegedale; granddaughter, Kerri (Aaron) Regoli; great-grandchildren, Anastyn Smith, Lewis Sylar, Evie Regoli, and Hattie Regoli all of Ooltewah; sisters, Margaret Johnson of East Ridge and Judy Hass of Ooltewah; and nieces, Sherri, Kayla, and Ashley.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Amedisys Hospice for their care of Betty.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 25, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at Ridgedale Baptist Church. A memorial service will begin 1 p.m. with Pastor Doug Plumlee officiating.

Betty will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date.
