Robert "Bob" Wallace, 79, of Signal Mountain died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Alexian Village.
Born in Bakersfield, California, he grew up in Las Cruces, NM. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso. During World War II, he served four years in the Navy, South Pacific Theater.
Mr. Mathews came to Chattanooga over 50 years ago to be district manager for Remington-Rand Inc. After Remington closed their stores he joined Blue Cross Blue Shield from which he retired 25 years later. After retirement, he spent full time on his avocation as a financial advisor.
Bob was a charter member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and active in Episcopal Church organizations. He was active in civic and business groups.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Banker Mathews; sister, Gertrude Prestage, Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Claudia Mathews Hubler of Ellettsville, Indiana; two granddaughters, “meg” Carter, Aviano, Italy and Michele Applegate, Houston, Texas; four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Alexian Village Chapel with the Rev. James L. Wilbanks, Sr. officiating.
The family will receive friends in the Parlor at Alexian Village following the service.
The body has been donated to medical science.
