John Howard Stakely, 94, of Hixson, died on Friday, November 04, 2005.

Howard was a native of Madisonville, TN, and a resident of the Chattanooga area since 1940. He was retired from Super Service Motor Freight Company and Smith Air Conditioning Company. Howard was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Madisonville.

He was the oldest child of the late Rev. John T. Stakely and Montie Toomey Stakely. Howard was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Ocie Mae Watson Stakely; nine children, Melgena S. Davis, Raymond E.(Beverly) Stakely, Robert C. (Margaret) Stakely, Melvin (Darlene) Stakely, Charles J. (Joyce) Stakely, Jimmy L. (Shirley) Stakely, Glenda S. DeFriese, Vivian S. (Joe) McMahan and Mitchell H. Stakely; 22 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Miller of Madisonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ken Conner and Rev. Gail Miller officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1–4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
