Cherita Adams and Dr. Chris Moore
Dr. Chris Moore and Cherita Adams will manage the Chattanooga Time Trial for the Tour de Georgia, city parks and recreation administrator Rob Healy said.
The Tour de Georgia is six days of world class, professional bicycle racing and community festivals that will take place in 12 Southeastern cities and two states in the global spotlight in April 2006.
Dr. Moore will be serving as the local Tour de Georgia Chairperson. Dr. Moore was born and raised on Lookout Mountain and, since his return to the Chattanooga area in 1990, has devoted himself, through one volunteer endeavor after another, to improving the community, particularly with regard to the natural environment, officials said.
Dr. Moore founded Outdoor Chattanooga in 2002 (now operated by the city of Chattanooga), serves on the Tennessee State Conservation Board as well as the Board of the Nature Conservancy of Tennessee, and, as a member of the national Board of the Wilderness Medical Society, hosts a wilderness medicine conference that attracts hundreds of physicians from around the country to Chattanooga each fall.
Dr. Moore states, "The Tour de Georgia is a great outdoor event in some of the greatest outdoors anywhere in the world, I can't tell you how excited I am to be part of the inaugural event into Tennessee and especially to help showcase Chattanooga. I think it's great that organizers have reached out to the people of Tennessee in this way, and I look forward to helping make our part of the event so special that we will assure our place for years to come."
Cherita Adams will be serving as the Tour de Georgia Director of Sales and Sponsorship as well as the accommodations manager. She is a native of New Orleans who recently relocated to Chattanooga. While in New Orleans, she was the director of sales and marketing for the Multicultural Tourism Network.
“The Time Trial to Chattanooga will give the city of Chattanooga a distinctive advantage and multiple promotional opportunities to showcase itself to an elite group of athletes, media and thousands of local, national and international spectators and fans,” she said. “This event brings the same type of dynamic energy that Chattanoogans possess for healthy living, outdoor sports and family fun — an ideal market place for city businesses to promote their brands and strengthen community ties.”
Outdoor Chattanooga played a major role in getting the Tour de Georgia to cross state lines into Tennessee, officials said.
Mr. Healy said, “We are excited that the Tour de Georgia has decided to cross state lines and allow Chattanooga to host this great event. Cherita is relocating to Chattanooga from New Orleans, and we are pleased to have her expertise now available to our community.”
