Don L. Thomas, 74, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, January 5, 2007 after a courageous fight with emphysema.
Born December 6, 1932 in Chattanooga, he was the son of the late Oscar and Lester B. Thomas. He loved the Lord, his loving family and many dear friends.
He was a member of Bayside Baptist Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Emmanuel Sunday School Class.
Don was a graduate of the 1950 Class of Central High School. He was a service supervisor for AT&T for 34 years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy L. Thomas; son, Steven Russell (Jo) Thomas, son, Michael Edward (Lisa) Thomas; daughter, Angela Lynn Thomas; grandchildren, Natalie Veal, Nicole Veal, Zach Thomas, Logan Thomas, Alexis Frase; and great-grandson, Colter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Grady Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. John Bailey, Bill Reed, Lewis Waddle, Jim Woodruff, Larry Thomas and Eric Thomas will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Emmanuel Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express its appreciation for the excellent assistance provided by Hospice of Chattanooga.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or the Hugs Ministry of Bayside Baptist Church.
