Joseph Ross Roueché Sr., 79, of East Ridge, died on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008.
His loves were his faith, his family, and his friends. A native of Salisbury, N.C., he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 47 years. He was a member of OLPH Catholic Church, where he served as church usher for many years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a faithful husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a true friend to many. He was a loving, unpretentious man, totally content with the gifts God gave him. He was born on Nov. 23, 1929, to Henry Bernard and Effie Morton Roueché in Salisbury. He was the eighth of ten children. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 44 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jo Ann; eight children; and eight grandchildren, Joseph Ross Roueché Jr. (Margaret), Joseph Ross Roueché III, Jacqueline, and Catherine; John F. Roueché (Beth), Kimberly Roueché Hochmuth and Jennifer Roueché, James D. Roueché (Sheila), Jessica, Kristin and Matthew, Jeffrey C. Roueché, Joan Marie Roueché, Jerry Michael Roueché, Jay Thomas (Trinka) Roueché; Jed B. Roueché.
Joe was a happy and joyful man. He was known to many as “the hugger.” He was full of life and love and these gifts he shared with everyone he met. Though we are grieving for ourselves, we rejoice in knowing that he is gloriously united with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as well as the family and friends that preceded him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the OLPH Catholic Church with Father Mike Nolan officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday before the service at the church, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 2:30 p.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation can be offered in his name to Catholic Charities of Chattanooga or Shepherd’s Arms Rescue Mission.
