Lemmie Thomas
Lemmie E. Thomas Sr., 91, died on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, in a local hospital.
He was a faithful member and deacon of New Horizon Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry E. Thomas and Clara B. Little; brothers, Robert, James, and Bennie Grier; and sisters, Annie Pearl Hammonds, Georgia Mae Grier, and Inez Blake.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Ida M. Knox Thomas; sons, John (Brenda) Walker, Covington, Ga.; Linnell (Tina) Thomas, Covington; Lemmie (Cynthia) Thomas Jr., Chattanooga; daughters, Gwendolyn (Eddie) Benton, Covington; Linda Scott, Chattanooga; Sheila (Kenneth) Emanuel, Orange Park, Fl.; Melba Thomas, Verna (Tommy) Harkness, all of Chattanooga; brother, Pete Grier, Columbus, Oh.; sisters, Mary Sue Brown and Cornelius Grier, Covington; 12 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nephew, Edward (Maxine) Blake, Atlanta; and numerous other nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at noon om Monday, Dec. 14, at New Horizon Baptist Church with Dr. Willie Paul, officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
The body will lie in state after noon on Sunday, Dec. 13, and the family will receive from 7–8 p.m. in the John P. Franklin Funeral Home Chapel, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
