Robert Nimrod Christol, 84, died on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, in a local hospital.
He was a native of Trion, Ga., and a son of the late Robert Franklin and Rosalee Brady Christol.
He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and was retired from AT&T after 34 years of service. Mr. Christol was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Oglethorpe where he was a deacon. He was very active in his community where he was a member of the Fort Oglethorpe Kiwanis Club, AARP president, and a volunteer at Hutcheson Medical Center, just to name a few.
Mr. Christol was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Joy Bigham Christol; and a son, Steven Robert Christol; and several siblings.
Survivors are his sons, Patrick Christol, Wadsworth, Il., Tim Christol, Pleasant Prairie, Wi.; sister, Catherine Martha Butler, Riverdale, Ga.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. John Wyatt officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
