Mocs Put Three Doubles Tandems In The Baras

The UTC men's tennis team had a strong day of doubles action at the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic. The Mocs are in the finals of three Doubles Flights at the Champions Club in Chattanooga.

Sophomore Jordan Faith (Denver, Colo.) is the lone singles play still alive. He defeated Jacksonville State's Tim Roenning (6-2, 6-3) to advance in the White consolation bracket. Juniors Manuel Barroetavena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Stephen Crofford (Franklin, Tn.) started doubles action with an 8-2 win over Kennesaw State's Matt Johnson and Tyler Mills in the Silver Flight. Faith and sophomore Orlando Lourenco (Hixson) followed that up with an 8-5 win over North Alabama's Jonathan Vick and Alex Weber in the White doubles draw. The match of the day for the Mocs took place in the Gold Flight. Juniors William Disterdick and Roberto Vieira scored a 9-8 win over Belmont's Fernando Mussolini and Bruno Silva to advance to tomorrow's finals.

Doubles play beings at the Champions Club on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. Singles action will start at 10 a.m.

The UTC women's tennis team will be competing for three flight titles after a strong second day at the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic. Junior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.) is the lone singles player still alive in the main draws, but the Lady Mocs have two doubles teams in the finals. Nurik posted a (6-4, 6-0) win over Stetson's Jennifer Miller in the Gold semifinals today. Senior Charlotte Bossy (Keokelare, Belgium) defeated Emily Orist of nearby Lee University (6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (7)) to advance to the finals of the Silver consolation flight. Junior Shaina Singh (Vancouver, B.C.) dropped her semifinals match in the Platinum Flight to the Hatters' Diana Bukajeva in a tough three-setter (6-7, 6-1, 7-6 (4)). Nurik and freshman Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tn.) scored an 8-3 win over Kennesaw State's Jana Hueckinghaus and Tamara Plocher to advance to the finals of the Gold Doubles Flight. Bossy and fellow senior Brianna Wishing (Murfreesboro) are in the finals of the White Doubles Flight after an 8-3 win over the Owls' Kelsey Kennedy and Tess Lagervisk. Doubles finals start at 8:30 a.m. (E.D.T.) on Sunday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga.

The singles matches are set for 10:00 a.m.
