KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee basketball coach Cuonzo Martin announced Monday that guard Wes Washpun has been granted a release and may transfer to another program.

A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Washpun appeared in 17 contests as a freshman for the Volunteers this past season and averaged 10.2 minutes per game. He played primarily as a backup at the point guard position.

“We wish nothing but the best for Wes,” Martin said. “He’s a high-character kid who comes from a good family. We all want to see him be successful.”
