Salvation Army To Audition Performers For The Musical Godspell

  • Tuesday, May 1, 2012

The Chattanooga Salvation Army 614 Corps is taking its ReCreate Café Arts Program to a new level by producing an ambitious production of Godspell with a blended cast of performers from both the homeless and housed, or non-homeless, communities. The leadership of the ReCreate Café is joining forces with theatre professors from Covenant College and UTC to create a high quality production scheduled for July.

“We are really excited to be working with Deborah Kirby from Covenant College as well as Steve Ray and Gaye Jeffers from UTC" said Tenika Dye, ReCreate Café artistic director. "They are terrific theatre professors and have a heart for working with the homeless population. This creative team knows what they are doing, and the show will be very well done.”

Anyone interested in being part of this production should attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. Auditions will be Friday, May 11, from 5-8 p.m., and on Saturday, May 12, from 2-5 p.m.

Both the informational meeting and auditions will be at ReCreate Café inside The Salvation Army 614 Corps, 800 McCallie Ave. Those auditioning do not have to prepare anything, but they will be asked to sing and do cold readings. If those auditioning have a head shot and resume, they are encouraged to bring these. Those interested in being in the band or on the technical crew should come to the informational meeting or contact Tenika Dye for more information.

The Salvation Army 614 Corps is also reaching out to the community to help fund this project so the performers might receive a small honorarium for their commitment, thus giving them a thoroughly professional theatre experience. Donations may be mailed to or dropped by The Salvation Army, 822 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37403. Please earmark donations for Godspell.

For more information, contact Tenika Dye, ReCreate Café artistic director, at 756-1023 ext. 137 or tenika_dye@uss.salvationarmy.org.
