Chuck Fleischmann Continues "Chuck On The Job" Initiative At UTC's Lupton Library

  • Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann will continue his “Chuck on the Job” initiative this Friday, at the Lupton Library on the campus of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Congressman Fleischmann worked in the library at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in order to help pay for his undergraduate degree.

“I was someone who had to pay my own way through college, and I did that in part by working at the campus library. I also did it by graduating in three years – because I couldn’t afford the fourth.

This shift at the library will give me a chance to relive some of those memories, and also to hopefully hear first-hand from students about the worries they have about entering an underemployed workforce. I know doing the right thing and working hard can lead to the American dream, but we have to get the government out of the way to help make that dream a reality,” Rep. Fleischmann said.

From a young boy overcoming the loss of his mother, to living on his own at 16, to mopping the floor of a McDonald’s, to working in a library, to starting a business with his wife and finally becoming a member of Congress, Rep. Fleischmann has lived the American dream. He ran for office so he could try to bring that American dream that he’s been privileged to be a part of, to you, to your family and to your grandchildren, he said.
