Post-season play and the JUCO careers for Georgia Northwestern’s Alex Miller, Bud Todd and Justin Dempsey came to an end in Warner-Robins, Ga., on Friday night as the Bobcats fell to West Georgia Tech in round one of the NJCAA Region XVII Post-Season Tournament, 73-33.

Behind the play of sophomore Golden Knights Victor Wynn and Randazerro Chaney, West Georgia Tech advanced to round two and a noon tip-time on Saturday versus host Middle Georgia Tech.
Miller and freshman Richard Olsen, both from Calhoun, Ga., both led the Bobcats with eight points each in the tournament offering.

Red-hot shooting from the Golden Knights in the first half quickly set the tone for the game. West Georgia Tech (15-15, 5-6) would connect on 58-percent of their shots from the field, 50-percent from beyond the three-point line.

Georgia Northwestern (8-19, 0-9) would give up 11 points off of 10 first-half turnovers on the night. Cold-shooting from three-point land would also play a part as the Cats would hit only 17-percent of their outside shots. Overall, the Bobcat shots would not fall from the field as they would only connect on 21-percent of their shots overall.

“I’m very proud of so many components of our team this year,” said Georgia Northwestern Men’s Head Basketball Coach David Stephenson. “We are awfully young and have so much to learn as we head into next season. My sophomores are very special to me and I’m going to miss them. They excelled in the classroom and on the court.”

The winner of the NJCAA Region XVII Tournament earns an automatic bid into the district round of the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament which tips-off in two weeks. The site of the district round will be held March 8-9 at the NJCAA Region 10 champion. All NJCAA Region 10 colleges are located in North Carolina.

Georgia Northwestern is a member of NJCAA Region XVII, the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association, and is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
