Chattanooga State Pitcher Signs With Georgia State

  • Friday, April 19, 2013

Tyler McClure, a left-handed pitcher from Chattanooga (Tenn.) State Community College, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Georgia State, head coach Greg Frady announced. He is the Panthers’ fifth signee of the spring, along with four fall signees.

McClure has helped Chattanooga State to a Top 15 ranking in the NJCAA national poll.

This spring, he has a 5-2 record with a 1.92 earned run average, along with one save. As a freshman, he went 4-2 with one save and a 3.53 ERA.

“Tyler is a 6-3 lefty from Chattanooga State,” said Frady. “He is a strike-thrower with three pitches. We see him as a possible starter, or he could be a reliever, so he has a lot of versatility. We needed to address left-handed pitching, and he certainly does that.”

McClure is from Blue Ridge, Ga., and attended Fannin County High School.

Also signing with the Panthers this spring are left-handed pitcher Wayne Wages (Lawrenceville, Ga., Marion Military Institute/Collins Hill HS), right-handed pitcher Kevin Burgee (Lawrenceville, Ga., Gordon College/Hebron Christian), catcher-first baseman Zach Moon (Snellville, Ga., Brookwood HS) and catcher-outfielder Trae Sweeting (Nassau, Bahamas, Christ School, Arden, N.C.).

The five spring additions join four fall signees in David Mayo (SS-RHP, Loganville, Ga., Loganville HS), Ryan Blanton (OF, Lilburn, Ga., Parkview HS), Austin Parrish (RHP-OF, Ringgold, Ga., Ringgold HS) and Alex Roberts (RHP, Dalton, Ga., Middle Georgia College/Dalton HS).
