Held Long Career With Volunteer State Life Insurance Company

Marcellus Moss White, 89, of Signal Mountain, died on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at a local hospital.

A resident of Signal Mountain for 58 years, he was elder emeritus of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Signal Mountain Lions Club. 

He served in the U.S. Army in Japan during World War II as a first lieutenant and worked for many years at Volunteer State Life Insurance Company and subsequently Chubb Life as purchasing manager.

Moss White was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jamie Harris White; and his parents, Edwin M. White and Anne Burkes White of Cumberland Gap.  

Survivors include his sons, David (Sandra) White of Signal Mountain and Stephen (Sue Fort) White of Nashville; grandchildren: Rebecca Anne White of Signal Mountain, Jesse Fort White of Brooklyn, New York, and Sarah Harris White of Nashville; and great-grandson, Carson Isaac Vick of Signal Mountain.

A burial service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a memorial service at the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church at 11:30 a.m. with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be directed to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church or the Signal Mountain Lions Club.
