Burton Lee Brooks, 96, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.  

He was born August 8, 1917, to John and Onnive Casteel Brooks. 

Mr.  Brooks was predeceased by his ex-wife, Bonnie Simpson Brooks and his second wife, Lottie Brooks and his step-daughter, Janie Moore. Mr. Brooks was the last of his brothers and sisters to pass away.  His brothers were Arthur, Junior, Flavil, Stanley, and Ora Brooks.  His sisters were Wilma Brooks Buckner and Avis Brooks Barton. 

He was a member of Central Church of Christ, Cleveland, TN.

Mr. Brooks was a WWII veteran having served in the Army and the United States Air Force for 20 years.  He received the Purple Heart at the beginning of his service career.  He received numerous awards while in the service fighting for our country.  He was in the service at the same time as his four brothers were serving.  He was the only one that was injured.  He said that he was glad that he was the one injured and not any of them.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Brooks Droke and Ernest Droke;  two grandsons and spouse, James Arthur Droke and Ernie and Anita Droke; great-grandchildren, Austin Droke, Anderson Droke, Taylor Droke, Ryan Droke, and Abby Droke; a step-granddaughter, Beth Clinkscales; step-great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Daniel and Michael Clinksdales; cousin, Ruth Crofts; brother-in-law, Ray (Virginia) Barton; special friends, Nancy and Keith Welder, Judy and Robert Howell, Betty Jo Ownbey (deceased) and Kenneth Howell and several nieces and nephews.  Brooks also leaves behind many friends from Central Church of Christ, Cleveland Christian Church, Garden Plaza, Caris Healthcare.

Mr. Brooks was called the “Pool Shark” at Garden Plaza.  He loved to play pool and Bingo.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be at Central Church of Christ on Monday, Aug. 26, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.  Minister  Tom Harrison will conduct the service at 1 p.m. in the church. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery following the funeral.
