GPS National Honor Society Welcomes New Members

  • Thursday, October 23, 2014

GPS Senior Rachel Hudson, president of the Duffy Jarnagin chapter of the GPS National Honor Society, introduced the new juniors and seniors tapped for membership during the fall induction ceremony on Thursday.

The induction was preceded by essay tributes by NHS officers to the scholarship, service, character, and leadership that the newest members have displayed as students at GPS.  Ms. Hudson described a leader as “someone who motivates others to work together to reach a common goal.”

Yvonne Boyer said that character “determines how one contributes to society.” Meg Winchester and Hannah Thel talked about service and scholarship, describing a servant as one who selflessly helps others out of a sense of compassion and a scholar as “not just a number,” but as one who takes advantage of opportunities to learn.

There are 35 members. Those tapped for membership because of their scholarship, leadership, service, and character include Jen Andrews, Isabella Biscarini, Allyce Buniak, Kaitlyn Crisp, Story DeWeese, Emma Gibson, Hannah Faith Greene, Brianne Holsomback, Gabby Hughes, Susanna LaRochelle, Christina Love, Mary Melissa Manuel, Caroline Mitchell, Haley Mull, and Hope Newberry.
