Roger Wayne Hill, 72, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.

Roger was born in Strunk, Ky., to the late Herman “Red” and Pearl Hill and was a graduate of Pine Knot High School, Pine Knot, Ky. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  Roger retired from Greyhound Bus Company with over 27 years of service and served as Union President for the Amalgamated Transit Union where he was a member for 17 years.  He was a member of Sulfur Springs Baptist Church in Strunk, Ky. Roger loved spending time with his family at home and at the family cabin in Parkers Mountain, Ky. He was an avid golfer where he made many special friends.  He was a member of the DVA, American Legion Post 115 and the VFW. Roger also was a member of the O’Hare Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. 

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Paul, and Wendell Hill.

Roger is survived by his wife of 17 years, Barbara Watters Hill; son, Stacey Hill and his wife Cindy; daughter, Charlotte Canaday and her husband Bob; stepsons, Terry Smith and his wife Amanda and Bryan Smith and his wife Alisa; nine grandchildren, Carson and Henry Hill, Warren and Katherine Canaday, Mayson and Lexi Smith, Alex, Tristin and Garrett Smith; sisters, Betty Lou Howell and her husband Skip and Brenda Johnson; goddaughter, Teri Gilreath and her husband, Mike; great-goddaughters, Courtney and Lindsey Gilreath; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service for Roger will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home chapel with Ordained Minister Ken Erb officiating.  Burial will follow in National Cemetery with military honors.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
