Georgia Northwestern Volleyball Splits

  • Tuesday, October 7, 2014
The Georgia Northwestern Technical College Lady Bobcats got a measure of revenge against the Covenant College junior varsity squad on Monday night, but the Navy-and-Silver were not able to finish off the sweep as Oakwood University downed the Lady Bobcats in three sets during the tri-match at the Rossville Athletic Center.

GNTC opened the night with a 25-20, 25-16 win over the Lady Scots, avenging a five-set road loss at Covenant last month.

Rachel McGill had a solid all-around night with a dozen assists and five digs to go with three aces, two kills and a pair of blocks.
Holly Mount paced the squad with eight kills. She also finished with six digs and a block. Erin Hurley had four kills, Casey Chapman added three kills and two digs, while Sabrina Garcia collected four kills and 10 digs.

Also contributing for the Lady Bobcats were Ashley Bradley (5 assists, 5 digs), Layna Jenkins (4 digs, 2 kills), Sara Birge (4 digs, 1 ace), Katlyn Bishop (10 digs, 3 aces) and Mikiah Treece (5 digs, 1 ace).

However, the night would end on a sour note as the Lady Ambassadors from Huntsville, Ala. swept past GNTC, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21, in a best-of-five match.

McGill filled up the stat sheet once again with six assists, three kills, two digs, two aces and one block. Chapman had four digs, an ace and a team-best six kills. Jenkins added five kills and four aces, while Treece collected seven digs and two aces from her libero spot.

Other top contributors included Mount (2 kills, 2 dig, 1 block), Garcia (6 digs, 1 kill), Bishop (2 aces), Bradley (5 assists) and Hurley (1 kill, 1 block).

The teams also celebrated GNTC’s annual Pink Night in an effort to bring awareness to breast cancer.

The Lady Bobcats (5-6) will make a trip to Huntsville to face Oakwood in a rematch this Saturday. They will close out the season next Monday (Oct. 13) in Dayton, Tenn. against the Bryan College junior varsity squad.
