Komen Chattanooga Announces Leadership Change

Board Chair Fills Interim Role During Transition

  • Monday, November 17, 2014

The Board of Directors of the Chattanooga Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For the Cure announced Monday that it has accepted the resignation of Executive Director Karen Edmondson who is leaving to pursue other opportunities.

Over the last four years Ms. Edmondson helped transition the local non-profit breast health organization from a 100 percent volunteer agency centered around the annual Race for the Cure into a year-around organization serving as a major contributor to local breast health programs in the Affiliate’s 16 Northwest Georgia and Southeast Tennessee county coverage area.

With Ms. Edmondson’s resignation effective Monday, the Board appointed Board President Carol Money as interim executive director.

"Our donors, supporters, sponsors and volunteers are Komen Chattanooga’s most important asset," said Ms. Money.  "We want them to know that we are taking steps to ensure this transition goes smoothly and to encourage them to continue supporting us so we can continue to provide the critical services that our community expects from us.

Ms. Money joined the Board of Directors in April 2008 and became chair in April 2013 as part of the Affiliate’s concentrated efforts to grow the organization.
