The United Daughters of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis Chapter 900 met at the Kinser Church of God Family Center on Saturday, Nov. 8, for their regular monthly meeting. Daughters welcomed prospective member attendee Ashley Anderson from Riceville.

After the ritual, reading of the minutes and treasurer’s report, members discussed old and new business. A trip to the Veteran’s Hospital in Johnson City, Tn., is scheduled for Tuesday.
Several members will visit with Veterans and deliver over $700 worth of donated items they have collected this year including backpacks, washcloths, toiletries, craft kits and clothing.

Several members will help judge history projects from local students at the upcoming 4-H History Fair on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Bradley Square Mall. The winner will receive a $50 award from the chapter.

In lieu of a program, the chapter held a special memorial service for their beloved friend and Registrar, JoAnn Garren Harbison Finnell who passed away unexpectedly in her home on Nov. 2. Chapter President Marilyn Kinne created a special picture video which played during the meeting. Lisa Pritchett sang the hymn Precious Memories and Anita Green sang one of JoAnn’s favorite songs, God Save the South. Linda Ballew read the poemThe Chosen, a fitting tribute to JoAnn’s love of genealogy. Prayers and scripture were read and several members shared fond remembrances of their dear friend.

The Jefferson Davis Chapter 900 will hold their annual Christmas meeting/dinner at the Kinser Church of God Family Center on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. Members are asked to bring a covered dish and a small, inexpensive wrapped gift. The program will be given by Chattanooga Chapter member and former Division President Jo Hill. She will be speaking on the history of toys.
