Hamilton Heights Christian Academy’s 6-foot-9-inch senior post Lanre Olatunji, has signed a national letter of intent to attend and play basketball at the University of North Georgia, an NCAA Division II school in Dahlonega, Ga.

UNC competes in the Peach Belt Conference, where the Nighthawks have begun their 2014-15 season by winning two straight games.

Nighthawks coach Chris Faulkner was heavily involved in Olatunji’s recruitment.

The Nigerain native is in his second season with Hamilton Heights, playing a back-up role to 6-11 junior Abdulhakim Ado, one of the nation’s top recruits for 2016.

“We are very proud of Lanre and his signing a scholarship at the University of North Georgia,” Hawks coach Zach Ferrell said.

“Lanre is a very hard working and intelligent young man that has tremendous potential.

“He works hard every day and has given himself an opportunity to be very successful. We are excited for the opportunity that Lanre has earned and we know he is going to continue to improve under great leadership and coaching at UNG.”

Olatunji’s development over the past year resulted in several colleges and universities recruiting him.

In limited minutes, he played in 23 games, averaging 2.3 points and three rebounds per game.

Olatunji will play on the Hawks’ Gold and Navy teams this season.

He plans to major in International Relations at UNG.
