The Memorial Auditorium was graced with the presence of authentic country music Saturday night. Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives kicked off the evening with a 16-song set, laced with mandolin solos, gospel songs, a little boot tapping, and even a Johnny Cash cover thrown in for good measure. Each member of the Fabulous Superlatives took his rightful turn singing, showing off the extreme amount of talent in the band.
Once the curtain rose for Old Crow Medicine Show the audience was already on their feet and would stay standing for the rest of the night. Old Crow, newest inductees to the Grand Ole Opry, gave the audience the perfect blend of bluegrass and country music drawing in a surprisingly young crowd. Couples began dancing in the aisles by the middle of the second song and the amount of two-stepping and dosey doe-ing only grew as the night wore on.
Old Crow Medicine Show’s seven-piece group showcased their abilities by constantly switching between guitars, mandolins, and fiddles. Again, each member seemed to get his turn in showing off. Even the roadie, who brought out the instruments to the band members throughout the night, gave the audience a short mandolin solo. Old Crow invited Marty Stuart and his band back out for a few songs, with an impressive eleven people on stage.
Old Crow ended their set with their famed “Wagon Wheel” with the entire audience singing along. They returned to the stage for the encore by covering Alabama’s “Dixieland Delight” with the crowds hollering along on the “Tennessee Saturday night” lyric.
Chattanooga was Old Crow Medicine Show’s last November tour stop. They return to the road briefly in December to finish off 2014 with an already sold out New Year’s Eve show in Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium.
