Hamilton County Voters Help Choose 3rd District Representative; Decide Municipal Elections, Wine And Alcohol Referendums

Hamilton County voters were going to the polls on Tuesday to decide whether Chuck Fleischmann should remain as the 3rd District House representative. He faces opposition from Democrat Mary Headrick and Independent Cassandra Mitchell.

Bill Haslam was expected to breeze into office for a second term as governor.

Longtime Senator Lamar Alexander is opposed by Democrat Gordon Ball and a number of other contenders.

Senator Bo Watson and Reps. Gerald McCormick, JoAnne Favors, Mike Carter and newcomer Marc Gravitt had no opposition.  Republican Patsy Hazlewood was going against Democrat Eric McRoy for the House 27 seat vacated by Richard Floyd.

Several local municipalities were voting on whether to allow the sale of wine in grocery stores.

Several interesting municipal races were being closely watched.

East Ridge Mayor Brent Lambert was facing opposition from Vice Mayor Jim Bethune and citizen activist Frances Pope.

Robert Bedwell, Jacky Cagle, Doris Rogers, Robert Stahl, Brian White and incumbent Larry Sewell were seeking two council posts in East Ridge.

Red Bank Councilman Rick Causer was running against Mayor John Roberts in Red Bank for commissioner at large. Even if he loses, Councilman Causer will be able to keep his present council seat. Terry Pope is opposing Vice Mayor Floy Pierce for the District 1 seat. Ed Lecompte and Dalton Temple are District 2 candidates. Mayor Roberts, Mr. Pope and Mr. Lecompte have been running as a team. 

Five candidates were seeking three seats in a hotly contest race for the Signal Mountain Council. Incumbents Dick Gee, Annette Allen and Vice Mayor Susan Robertson are on the ballot along with Chris Howley and Robert Spalding, who are critical of the incumbents for placing certain city park land in a conservation easement.

Ken Bell is running against incumbent Peter Hetzler for mayor of Walden. Thom Peterson, Karen Paul Stone and William Trohanis are seeking two alderman seats.

In Collegedale, Patricia Fountain, Phil Garver, Nathan Smith, Mayor John Turner and Ethan White are running for two commission spots.

Robert Cothran and Mayor Rick Nunley were the only candidates for two commissioner seats in Soddy Daisy. 

At Lakesite, Valerie Boddy, Curtis Jones, Bill Neighbors and Ken Wilkerson are running for three commission posts.
