  • Tuesday, December 23, 2014

Virginia Lodge, of Nashville, on Tuesday became a member of the TVA board of directors, taking the oath of office in a ceremony in Nashville. Her term will expire on May 18, 2019.

Ms. Lodge, nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate on Dec. 9, was sworn in by U.S. District Judge Aleta A. Trauger of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, in a private ceremony.

“I am honored to have been nominated to this very important post by the president and confirmed by the U.S. Senate,” Ms. Lodge said. “I look forward to serving on the TVA board and representing the people of the Tennessee Valley.”

Ms. Lodge lives in Nashville and is the chief executive officer of FSI, a position she has held since 2012. Prior to this, she served as commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Human Services from 2003 to 2011.  Ms. Lodge was the executive director for Kids Voting of Middle Tennessee from 1994-1999. During her career she has worked on a number of political campaigns, including Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen’s campaign and transition team.

Ms. Lodge received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from the University of Hawaii, a Master’s of Arts degree from the University of San Francisco and a Masters of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University.

Ms. Lodge is one of two newly confirmed appointments to the TVA board of directors.  Ronald Walter, of Memphis, was sworn in Tuesday.  Mr. Walter and Ms. Lodge are filling the seats of board members Barbara Haskew of Chattanooga, and Bill Sansom, of Knoxville, whose terms expired in May. They will join TVA Board Chairman Joe Ritch, of Huntsville, Ala., and current members Marilyn A. Brown, of Atlanta, Ga.; V. Lynn Evans, of Memphis; Richard Howorth, of Oxford, Miss.; Peter Mahurin, of Bowling Green, Ky., and Michael McWherter of Jackson, Tenn.

One vacancy remains on the nine-member board.
