Decie Saylor
Decie Phillips Saylor died on December 24, 2014.
Born to Harvey Jasper and Maggie Atkins Phillips on July 14, 1914, in Villanow, Ga., she was seventh of 10 children.
A graduate of Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga, she attended business college. She eventually went to work at the Chattanooga Public Library, retiring in 1976 as head of the Circulation Department. Decie was an active member at Ridgedale Baptist Church, having served as librarian there for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, James W. Saylor whom she married in Rossville in 1934, and eight siblings.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Phillips Saylor (Freddie), daughter Judy Leach (Scott), grandson Randy Saylor, all of Chattanooga, and brother Julian E. Phillips, of Chickamauga.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29 in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Owens and Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating. The burial will follow in Phillips Cemetery in Villanow, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 4–8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ridgedale Baptist Church Library, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
