Former City Auditor For Chattanooga Was World War II Veteran

Howells D. (Bud) Miller, Jr., 88, of Chattanooga, died peacefully on Saturday evening, April 12, 2014.

Bud was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga.  He was a retired city of Chattanooga employee.  Bud served as city auditor.  He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.  He joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1950 and later retired at the rank of Colonel.  Bud was a  long-time member of the Chattanooga Armed Forces Week general committee.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chattanooga and held membership in a variety of professional, benevolent, fraternal and military organizations.  Leisurely, Bud loved to travel, was a member of a number of bowling leagues, and was an avid University of Tennessee Chattanooga and University of Tennessee Knoxville sports fan and supporter.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Alicia Miller; father, Howells D. Miller, Sr.; mother, Janie Pinkerton Miller; sisters, Helen Louise Hardy, Jacqueline Patterson; and brother, Robert C. Miller.

Survivors include his brother-in-law, R. B. Patterson; nieces and nephews, Eddie Hardy, Bobbie Wright, Brenda Walker, Joyce Pike, Ricki Hardy and Leslie McGlaughn; and special caregivers, Ruth Pullen and Edward Lawrence.  

A special thank you to all of Bud’s friends/supporters and the staff of Life Care of Collegedale.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, and from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at the funeral home with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating.

Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
