Charles “William” Cartwright, 82, of Cleveland, TN, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 in a local hospital.  

He was of the Baptist faith.  He was retired from Cleveland Chair after 44 years of service.  He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Cartwright enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a love for the outdoors and specially going to the mountains.

 Mr. Cartwright was the son of the late Luke Castellor Cartwright and Elzora Swaggerty Cartwright and was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Jimmie Cartwright and Ed Cartwright; sister, Myrtle Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy M. Carroll Cartwright of Cleveland; two daughters, Sandra Hawkins and husband, Edward of Old Fort and Wilma Dailey and husband, John of Calhoun; six grandchildren, Jeff Hawkins and wife, Kari, Christopher Dailey, Molly Morales and husband, Wiliam, Kristy Fowler and husband, Deken, Tiffani Dailey and Anthony Dailey; 15 great-grandchildren, Kayla Hawkins, Myranda Hawkins, Alex Hawkins, Logan Smith, Blake Smith,  Ashlyn Dailey, Logan Fowler, Kylie Fowler, Titus Fowler, Uriah Lang, Leo Dailey, Spencer Young, Sara Lamb, Matthew Gossett and Haylee Gossett; one great-great-grandchild, Dimitri Hawkins; sister, Rosa Cross and husband Billie of Cleveland; brother, W.C. Cartwright and wife, Louise of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Tunice Young of Cleveland; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Roger Wagner and Reverend Sammy Hughes officiating.  Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors.   Luke Cartwright, William Cartwright, Eddie Cartwright, Terry Cartwright, Mark Cross and Mike Johnson will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Hawkins, Christopher Dailey and Anthony Dailey.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, at the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
