JoAnn Goddard Lawrence, 72, a resident of East Ridge, died on Friday, September 19, 2014 at her home.

She was born in Benton, Ar., on June 6, 1942, to the late Robert W. “Buck” and Rose Goddard, also of East Ridge.

Jo was a graduate of City High School and attended Emory and Henry College in Virginia. She was a member of the Crestwood Garden Club of East Ridge, serving as president for many years. She enjoyed her time with all the members while they worked on various projects throughout East Ridge. She worked hard and enjoyed being a master gardener throughout the area. She served as District III TFGC state chairman. Jo was active in researching and giving the history of the Blue Star Markers at various locations throughout the state.

Although not active, Jo held membership at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church for many years.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 46 years, James “Jim” Lawrence, son, Marc and daughter-in-law, Leigh of Kimball, Tn., daughter, Kara Lawrence and granddaughter, Jessica Waddell of East Ridge, grandson, Hunter Burke of Athens, Tn., and a sister, Mickey Trimble of Knoxville.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Shane Craven officiating.

The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
