Replace The VFW Flag - And Response

  • Tuesday, January 27, 2015

I agree with my dear friend, David Carroll.  If it’s a money thing, I will join in with Dave and buy a new flag for the VFW.

I am puzzled as to why this tattered flag is flying at a VFW post of all places.  My dad was at Pearl Harbor when the signing to end the war took place on the Missouri.  My mom was also there and worked as a secretary to Admiral Nimitz.  My maternal grandmother and grandfather were there when the initial bombing began by the Japanese.

My dad would swell up with pride when he saw am American flag flying and taught all three of his sons to honor and cherish the flag.  I suppose that I have been raised in an environment where I am in pain when I see Old Glory beaten up like this.

I do not doubt for one moment the sincerity of all members of this glorious VFW post. I honor and respect them all, but please, it’s time for a new flag.

God bless all of our service men and women who have served in the past, currently and in the future. All of you are my heroes.

I am commander VFW post 2598 Cleveland, Tn., and having seen your story, I contacted our district commander to ensure the flag is replaced  immediately. Thank you for making us aware.
