Robert Alexander
Robert (Bob) Arthur Alexander, Jr., 72, of Chattanooga, died on January 29, 2015 at his home.
Bob grew up and attended schools in Southern California. He graduated in 1964 from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA with a B.S. in math and went on to work at Transamerica Occidental Life insurance Company where he studied to become an actuary. A job transfer brought him to Chattanooga where he worked for Provident Life and eventually retired from Cigna in 2000.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Alexander and Mary Leslie Hemler Alexander.
Bob was an active member of Tyner United Methodist Church for many years, serving as Treasurer and a delegate to the Holston Annual Conference. He was active in the Chickamauga Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, enjoying driving his 1950 Pontiac and going on outings with the club. He was also a longtime volunteer for AARP’s Tax-Aide program and served as district coordinator for the Chattanooga District, overseeing tax preparation in a five-county area.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn, his daughter, Karen (Jack) Wheeler of East Ridge and his brother, Bill (Catherine) of Bayside, California.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2:30 p.m. at Tyner United Methodist Church, 6805 Standifer Gap Road with Reverend. Charlie Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
