Bertha Mae McAdams Smith, 95, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Wood Dale Health Care Center.

Born July 19, 1920 in Pickens County, SC, she moved to Whitfield County in 1943 after marrying John Guinn Smith. They were married 65 years before his death in 2009.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her father, John Welden McAdams; mother, Ollie McAdams; and brothers, Clyde McAdams, Roy McAdams, Clifton McAdams and Clinton McAdams.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and an excellent cook and seamstress. She was an active member of Five Springs United Methodist Church serving for many years as Sunday School Teacher, Worship Committee Chairperson and Parsonage Committee Chairperson; and she was a life time member of United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Smith is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Gwinndalyn and Jim Barclay; daughter, Sandra Franklin, all of Dalton; sister, Ruth Leake of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Andy Cloud, Kathy Hammontree, Lanna and Shane Rudeseal; six great-grandchildren, Wyatt Hammontree, Anna Guinn Hammontree, Guinndalyn Cloud, Thomas Cloud and Helen Elizabeth Rudeseal; and several nieces and nephews.

A worship service of the life of Bertha Mae McAdams Smith will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 at Five Springs United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ann Fleming and the Rev. Sandra Smith Franklin will be officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

The Family wishes to thank caregivers Brenda Patterson and Marti Phillips and all the staff at Wood Dale Health Care Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Five Springs United Methodist Church, 2823 Five Springs Rd. Dalton, GA 30721.
