Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department has received an improved rating for fire protection services, earning a Class 4/4x Public Protection Classification from the Insurance Services Office.
ISO rating scale goes from a 1 (exceptional fire protection) to a 10 (recognized as no fire protection). The rating is based on emergency communications, capabilities on responding to emergency calls and providing water supply. The rating is also determined on structures that are located within five miles of a fire station and 1,000 feet from a water source.
This new rating will provide Highway 58 VFD with a valuable tool when planning, budgeting and justifying fire protection improvements.
The Highway 58 VFD district consists of an area of Ooltewah, Harrison, Birchwood, Georgetown, and Snowhill and protect approximately 110 square miles maintaining four Fire Stations and a Training Center.
