Patton, Thayer Elder

  • Monday, November 30, 2015

Thayer Elder Patton died peacefully on November 29, 2015.

Thayer was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga.  He grew up in the Silverdale area and graduated from Tyner High School.  At Tyner, he was a member of the football team and the marching band.  After graduation, Thayer enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska.  Due to his father’s illness, Thayer was not able to complete his tour of duty and had to return home to Chattanooga to help operate the family business, Central Plumbing and Heating.  After several years at Central Plumbing, Thayer decided to open his own business, Best Plumbing and Heating.  He owned Best Plumbing until his retirement.  Thayer was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Creeks Bend Golf Club.  Music was always an important part of his life.  He had directed the choirs at Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church and later at Brainerd Presbyterian Church, where he was a member.  We have comfort knowing he is singing in God’s choir today.

Thayer was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Mary E. Patton; brother and sister-in-law, George H. and Virginia Patton; sister and brother-in-law, June P. and John M. Kazy; brother-in-law, Chester M. Bookout; nephew, Tim Bookout; and his beloved cat, Goldie.

Survivors include his daughter, Penny (Ed) Armstrong of Dunlap; son, Michael (Vivian) Patton of Chattanooga; grandchildren: Amanda Armstrong and Emily (Brian) Richmond, both of Murfreesboro and Jeffrey Patton of East Ridge; step-grandchildren, Kim (Jon) Lamparter of Dunlap, Will Easterly and Ashley Easterly, both of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren: Gabriella Richmond, Owen Richmond and Brooklynn Richmond, all of Murfreesboro and Autumn Patton of East Ridge; step-great-grandchildren: Tyler, Justin and Kaylie Lamparter of Dunlap and Carter Easterly of Chattanooga; great-great-grandson, Easton Lamparter of Dunlap; sister, Diane Bookout of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Willie Morris of Chattanooga.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. The funeral service will follow visitation at 1:30 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with Reverend B. J. Hancock officiating.  Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
