Bean, Verna Mae Kelley (Chickamauga)

Verna Mae Kelley Bean, 90, of Chickamauga, Georgia, died Saturday evening, January 31, 2015.

She was born in Winchester, Tn., to the late William Marks and Mary Jane Parton Kelley. She had lived in the Chickamauga area for the past 61 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church in Chickamauga, where she sang in the choir and quartets and also served as Sunday School Secretary and Church Clerk. She enjoyed singing gospel and country music. She was one of the first patients in Chattanooga to have head surgery in 1944 and survive.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny William Bean, and 12 siblings.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: William Franklin (Bonnie) Bean, Kenneth Ray (Sharon) Bean, Rosemary (Ronald) Parrish, Wanda Sue (Connie) Parrish all of Chickamauga, Darrell Edward Bean of Blue Ridge, GA, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thanks to all of the employees of Parkside Nursing facility for taking such great and special care of our mother. Thanks for all the love you showed to her, as she loved you all too.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 2, from 4–9 p.m. and Tuesday morning prior to the service.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Johnny Lusk and Tim Chastain presiding. Burial will follow at Chickamauga Cemetery - Chickamauga.

Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Homes – J. Avery Bryan Chapel – Chickamauga.
