The Judge David Campbell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented Dr. June Scobee Rodgers with the Women in American History Award. This award is presented to women to acknowledge the outstanding contributions in areas of American History.
Dr. Rodgers, widow of Colonel Francis Richard (Dick) Scobee, the command pilot for the space shuttle Challenger on its fatal flight, was the guest speaker. After the Challenger disaster, Dr. Rodgers joined with the other families who lost loved ones that day to continue the mission of space education for children. Dr. Rogers serves as founding chairman of the Board and founding director for the Challenger Center for Space Education.
Her "entertaining and heartfelt talk" focused on her faith in the Lord, the loss of the Challenger, and the founding of the Challenger Center.
After her presentation, Regent Jan Perry presented Dr. Rodgers the Women in American History Award for her service to our country and her promotion of space education. Dr. Rodgers autographed and presented each attendee with her book Silver Linings, My Life Before and After Challenger 7. Upon conclusion of the presentation and after lunch members of the Judge David Campbell Chapter of the DAR toured the Challenger Center.
